How to remove wine stains from carpet
We have all been there- that drop in your stomach when the red wine slips out of your hands onto your precious, beautiful, light-colored carpet. The bad news is, once it’s done, it’s done. You can’t rewind time to prevent the spill, but the good news is you can still get your carpet to look good as new again with the proper care.
Next time you have a spill, here are a few steps for you to take to get the stain out of the carpet:
Step 1: ACT FAST!
Run as fast as you can to grab paper towels or a clean towel. Gently dab the wine spill so that you soak up whatever liquid has not yet made its way into the carpet fibers. Whatever you do: Do NOT rub the stain. Doing so will result in the wine spreading further into the carpet, which will make it more difficult to absorb. The quicker you complete this step, the less wine absorbs into the carpet.
Step 2: Grab Some Household Absorbents
Once you have done the best you could by blotting, grab some baking soda or even salt and pour some over the spill. Let the powdered substance sit on the spill for 10-20 minutes. If it’s a massive spill, you might want to leave it on for closer to 20 minutes.
Step 3: Repeat Step 1
Once the powdered substance has sat on the spill for a little while, you will notice it has turned a pinkish-red color. This change of color means that the salt or baking soda has done its part to soak up the wine. Rather than using the towel or paper towels you used earlier, grab a clean towel and blot the excess liquid from the stain. If the baking soda or salt does not work, you can mix together club soda and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the stain and then dab it with your paper towel.
Step 4: Leave it to the Professionals!
With some red wine stains, even after every tip you find on the internet, you may come to realize that there is nothing more you can do to get the stain out yourself. When this point comes, it’s time to call Pure Carpet Cleaners.
