Common Carpet Stains and How to Easily Remove Them

If you have carpet in your home, stains are inevitable. Not to worry though! With the right treatment and care, your carpet can be made to look, feel and smell brand new. We have a list of some of the most common stains and how you can fix them.

Pet Stains

Our furry friends and their accidents are the leading cause in carpet stains- but we still can’t help but love them. It’s important to know dog and cat urine can damage your carpet and create an unpleasant scent in your home if it’s not taken care of immediately.

How to Fix it: First things first, soak up any excess moisture. Always have a carpet stain-cleaning product that is specifically for pet stains on hand. Then, mix ¼ cup of vinegar with a quart of warm warmer and spray onto the stain. Once the mixture soaks in, blot the stain until it is gone and dry.

If you have pets, it’s necessary to use a professional cleaning service at least once a year. This will ensure the length of your carpets lifetime and will prevent you from having to frequently replace your carpet. It will also create a fresh smelling scent in your home and make it more comfortable for everyone.

Spills

Whether you are the host of a party or you have kids in your home running around with all types of juices, spills are another inevitable accident. Usually the main concern is keeping the dark color out of your carpet.

How to Fix it: DO NOT rub the stain- this will actually make the stain spread. Instead, blog the area and afterwards mix ¼ cup of vinegar with 1 tablespoon of dish soap and water in a spray bottle. This may take a couple of tries, but be sure to allow the mixture to soak for about 10 minutes and then blot the stain again.

Mud and Dirt Stains

Mud and dirt are always going to be brought into the home. You could accidentally carry it through or your guests, kids or pets can too. The big problem is when big mud stains are carried throughout the carpet.

How to Fix it: Let the mud dry and then slowly vacuum any loose dirt. Then, mix one teaspoon of mild dish washing detergent into warm water and use a white cloth to blot the solution onto the carpet, swapping out fresh cloths and towels as needed.

Although there are simple mixtures to try and clear carpet stains, they never will be 100% gone without a deep clean. Whether you have tons of stains in your carpet or not, a deep cleaning carpet service is recommended for every home.
